Traveling on a Budget: Making the Most of the Honeymoon

After you two are pronounced husband and wife, have celebrated at your reception with your loved ones..it's time for some quality time with your beau!

Whether you are looking for tips for your honeymoon, or simple tips for your next vacation without breaking the bank, keep on reading!

Time to Explore!

Take this big trip as a time to explore!

Exploring doesn't necessary just mean going skiing, jet-skiing, zip-lining, or swimming with sharks, etc. Exploring can also be sightseeing, taking on an activity (sports, cooking class, bike ride, etc.) exploring different restaurants, or simply relaxing at different spots around your vacation.

Take this major trip as an opportunity to get out of your routine and grow closer to your significant other. You two can spend quality time and bond over an activity you both can do.

When you are planning your next vacation make sure to look at activities to do around where you are staying. You can ask the front desk at the hotel that you are staying, ask your Airbnb host, or simply look it up yourself. Look at prices, see what fits your schedule and budget, and then pencil in some time to explore around a little.

Major Vacationing Resorts

One of the options that you have are major vacationing resorts. These are big hotel chains that have many a location at major vacationing spots.

There are different types of vacationing resorts:

  • Adults Only Resort: these hotel resorts are reserved for 18+/21+. The majority also tend to be all-inclusive. These also tend to be more quiet and private, while there are also some for partiers. The majority of the couples here are honeymooning, on an anniversary trip, or simply having a romantic escape. It's easier to find activities catered to couples and more adult activities.
  • All-Inclusive Resort: these resorts include everything! The food, drinks, and snacks are unlimited. If you decide to go with this type of resort, make sure to check with your hotel if you need to reserve your seat at restaurants for meals, and what are the times for restaurants and room service. These packages do tend to be at the more expensive end, but you pay for everything upfront, so you just have to relax and enjoy.
  • Regular Resort: these are usually major resort chain hotels. You will have to plan your meals and activities. It's also important to bring some extra money for tips. If you know that you don't consume much (enough to justify the all-inclusive prices), all-inclusive resorts aren't at your destination, or you want to have the liberty to choose where you eat (maybe at a restaurant/bar at another location), then this is the type of resort for you.

The majority of these resorts are well established and count with several resources for food, drink, and activities. If you happen to go to a major travel destination, you are sure to find a resort. From more private resorts, to more loud and active resorts, there is a little for everyone.

Honeymoon Vibes

There are many different types of honeymoon you can go on though, depending on your vibe.

Below are some of the more popular honeymooning vibes couple can go on (or anyone looking to travel!).

Beaches, Tans & Cocktails

Many people think of vacationing on a beach when they think of a honeymoon. For the majority, that is what couples tend to go for. Relaxing by the beach with a drink in hand just sounds amazing!

Whether you just want to relax or prefer to be active (jet-skiing, hang-gliding, swimming with wild-life, zip-lining, etc.) on your honeymoon, vacationing on a beach seems to have it all!

There are countless gorgeous photos of people vacationing in Maldives, the French Polynesian, the Caribbean, etc. When you look at the prices, they are well in the $$$ (thousands).

These are some budget-friendly choices:
  • Mexico (Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Cozumel)
  • Jamaica
  • Beliza
  • Cuba
  • Costa Rica

Camping/Glamping

Camping is another way to honeymoon.

You can easily go to Yosemite, a lake, or somewhere across the country and find a gorgeous scenic place to camp.
You will definitely need some camping experience to do this one.

This is for the couple (people) who like to go camping, nature, and more DIYing.

This is majorly cost-effective if you already have the camping equipment. The only thing that you will need is some extra supplies and a tank of gas to go (whether you are camping from an RV or putting up your tent).

Backpacking

Backpacking is a great trip for the couple that likes to sight see and be active.

You can backpack in nature and be in combination to camping, or go to another country (i.e. Europe, Mexico, South America, etc.) and simply travel across a country and enjoy with the locals and/or major landmarks.

Sight-seeing

If you enjoy to sight see, take pictures, and discover new places...this is the type of vacation for you!

When I think of this, I think of the stereotypical tourists.

It's important to research the place(s) that you are going and be culturally sensitive.

It's important to have an itinerary of the places you want to visit and if there are requirements (tickets, documentation, attire, etc.).

Foodies

This is for the people that tend to out a great emphasis on where they will eat during their vacations.

If you fall in this catefory (like I do), it is important to read review online about the different food choices there are. Maybe an all-inclusive choice is not the best one for this category, unless the resort have excellent reviews and it's part of your bucket-list.

Staycation

This is another one for the people on a very tight budget. A staycation can be a great choice.
If you are planning to have a staycation make sure to rent a place to stay to get you out of home. Whether this be a hotel room, an Airbnb, or something else. This ensures that you have a bit of adventure on your trip and aren't worried about the many responsibilities at home.

This can be an opportunity to explore your city, area, or state a little better, see new places, try new food, and relax a bit with your significant other on this special trip.

I hope this post helped you narrow down your choices for a honeymoon and travel in general.

  2. Using points and credits goes a long way as well, especially for hotels and airline tickets. Some airline points you can even use for car rentals. Relatives can transfer points as well that can help the couple
