Wedding Ready Beauty: Skin

Wedding Ready Beauty: Skin

Your skin is the largest organ on your body. Beautiful makeup starts with what's underneath: your skin!

You will want to start treating your skin months in advance to ensure that you have plump, glowing, clear skin for your wedding day.

If you want to have that bridal glow on your wedding day, here are a few tips to help you achieve just that.

Skin Type

First, it's important to know your skin type.

Skin changes from season to season and throughout your life.

It's important to always pay attention to the signs your skin gives you, and if you have the time and money, to go to a skin professional to help you determine that. But...if you don't and are on a budget, here are a few ways in which you can DIY and still achieve that beautiful glowy clear skin!

Below is a video that will help you determine what type of skin you have:

Identify Issues/Target

There are specific issues and areas that specific people are targeting. It all depends on the environment and the nutrition and lifestyle you have.

Below are some of the most common issues that you may have and some tips to help you target these areas:

  • Problematic/Acne-prone: products with tea tree oil or acne spot treatments are great for targeting specific issues. It's important to know if the acne is being caused by something external (i.e. smog, sweat, not taking off your make-up before you go to bed, etc.) or something internal (your poor nutrition and lifestyle).
  • Dullness: it's important to gently exfoliate your skin, whether that be with a gentle exfoliating product with beads, a chemical exfoliating acid, or an exfoliating brush/cloth. This will help eliminate the dead skin that is causing the dullness. It's important to follow with brightening products that are rich in Vitamin C to help restore your skin cells and provide that brightening effect.
  • Scars: for scars, you will need a treatment rich in Vitamin C. You need a powerful treatment that will help restore the skin's elasticity and help skin cells in that area to restore the skin to the beautiful and plump state it once was. Something I have also heard people rave about doing treatments with micro-needling at home and following with a Vitamin C or retinol serum.
  • Aging: after 25 years of age, it is important that people start treating their skin for aging skin. It's important to start treating the skin although there might be no visible sign to the human eye. The damage is done to the deeper skin layers. It's important to use serums and night creams rich in retinol and other skin renewing properties.
  • Pores: pores are something most people are worried about. There are many products out there to help clear pores and help reduce the appearance of them. It's helpful to do mud masks, charcoal masks, and clean your pores with regularity to avoid the build-up in our pores.

Nutrition

Hydration is key to a beautiful skin complexion. Your skin will clear up and appear plump and glowing.

Another area you need to take care of is what you eat. You need to eat loads of veggies, fruits, and healthy foods.

Avoid foods that are greasy, high in fat and, any fast-foods in general. These greasy foods will cause more breakouts and contribute to the greasiness of your face.

Routine

Skincare routines can vary from person to person and even from one day to the next! Hormones, stress, eating habit, and other things can affect our skin from one day to the next.

This could also apply to your body. Cleanse and exfoliate (with a loofa, an exfoliating cloth or a body exfoliating product) when you shower and the cleanse with a rich body moisturizer.

Skincare routines whether 4 or 10 steps can be divided into 4 simple areas:

  • Cleanse
    • This step is essential to clean away any residue and impurities from the day/night.
    • Double cleansing is recommended for when you have make-up.
      • 1st you would cleanse your skin from the make-up with a makeup remover or oil (coconut oil works).
      • 2nd you would continue to cleanse with your regular cleanser.
  • Tone
    • After stripping the skin from all the oils and dirt, it's time to restore the pH of your skin with toner. You can use a specific toner depending on your skin type or if you're targeting a specific skin issue.
    • If your skin needs extra TLC you can also add an essence.
  • Treat
    • Now would be the time to exfoliate, add a serum and/or a mask.
    • If you are exfoliating your skin, make sure to add some more toner after you have exfoliated, to restore the skin.
    • You can use a mask, and rotate masks, depending on what treatment you want to give your skin.
    • You can also just add a serum to treat your face.
  • Moisturize
    • After all the treatment, it's time to lock it all in and protect your skin with a moisturizer.
    • It's important to always hydrate your under eye area. It's important to have a specific product for this area, for this is the thinnest and most delicate area. When you apply your under-eye moisturizer, make sure to use your ring finger (since this is the finger that applies the least amount of pressure).
    • It's important to look for a moisturizer that has a good SPF (around 50). You can add it after your regular moisturizer if you are unable to find one with it included.
    • If you need extra moisture, especially during winter, and you want to add oil, make sure to add it after you have applied your moisturizer to the needed areas.
